SA Alert 24/7 was established with having the safety of South Africans as the priority. In light of the most recent crime statistics and violence against woman it compelled us to ask, “How can we make South Africa safer?”
It is no secret that the crime statistics in South Africa are on the rise every year. This can be attributed to numerous economic and political factors that our country faces, however social factors are just as much to blame. In an age of social media, we have left ourselves very exposed to the public eye, unfortunately this includes criminals. The rise of social media has also led to the degeneration of close knit communities and many of us live without even knowing our neighbours. As a society we have grossly underestimated how much, having an active community network can help in crime prevention and security. It has been most evident in resident communities that have community police forums, how much crime statistics have decreased within the area.
